Alys in Wonderland: Development joins Beaches of South Walton
October 24, 2008
Alys Beach joins as the 15th community of Beaches of South Walton, a premier collection of beach communities located along Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast. The area is the birthplace of New Urbanism and is also the only place in the United States to have 26 continuous miles of sugar-white sand certified "Blue Wave" by the Clean Beaches Council.
Because Alys Beach provides retail shopping, restaurants, beaches, world-class public events and short-term vacation rentals, the community was selected for inclusion in this elite group.
"Alys Beach's amenities rank among the very best in the world, and they further enhance the character and charm of this region as a whole," said Sonny Mares, executive director of the Beaches of South Walton Tourist Development Council. "In addition, their focus on environmental responsibility and sustainability perfectly aligns with the culture that has been fostered in Beaches of South Walton."
"This is an exciting milestone for our town residents and for our resort team," said Jason Comer, Alys Beach's Town Founder. "Beaches of South Walton has an outstanding reputation for providing high-quality family vacation experiences, and Alys Beach is very eager to contribute to that tradition."
Inspiration for Alys Beach's extraordinary architecture came from Bermuda and the family courtyard homes of Antigua, Guatemala.
Upon completion, the resort town will have over 600 villas and courtyard homes, in addition to many parks, pools, restaurants and shops. All the properties in Alys Beach are also built to the Green Home Designation Standard of the Florida Green Building Coalition and are built to "Fortified…for safer living" building standards, as designated by the Institute for Business & Home Safety.
Alys Beach joins 14 other Beaches of South Walton communities including Inlet Beach, Dune Allen Beach, Rosemary Beach, WaterSound, Seagrove Beach, Santa Rosa Beach Seaside, WaterColor, Grayton Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Seacrest, Sandestin, Seascape and Miramar Beach.
